Ad Astra (2019)

  • Gist: An astronaut is called on to contact his father, who commanded an expedition to the Neptune neighborhood that disappeared but…you know, forget it. This is a HIGHLY intro-reflective slow-burn melodrama set in sci-fi trappings.
  • Production design: Meticulous, Outstanding
  • Pacing: SLooooooooooowwww.
  • Loooooong looks into Brad Pitt’s face: 24
  • Gross moments: 4
  • Scientific or technical not-rights: About 20. (It’s not really **science** fiction.)
  • Planets visited/passed in transit: Four, plus the Moon.
  • Moon buggy shootouts: 1
  • Beautiful space vistas: 50+
  • Subtlety: Not a bit.

Conclusion: Watch it if you want great visuals of space or Brad Pitt’s face. Don’t go sleepy.
